A peek behind the scene

The “Photographer"

Aloha,

My name is Keao (pronounced “kay-ow”), a Big Island girl from a small little plantation town. I’m now living with my husband, Scott, in Kaneohe (Oahu) with the misty peaks of the Koolau mountains as our backdrop and our faithful dog, Charlie, lounging under the mango tree. We don’t have kids yet but hopefully they’re in our near future. We’ve received our fair share of not-so-subtle hints from the parents-wanting-to-be-grandparents.

Hmm, I would best describe myself as…a dork. I’m pretty proud of it. I was a complete nerd growing up. When I was naughty (who me?), my parents would confiscate my library card as punishment. I’m a science geek. When my friends signed up for scuba diving as their elective in high school, I chose a “Recombinant DNA technology” class and loved it. I played a lot of sports. I used to surf (longboard) but haven’t done so in years which I really regret. I sing all the time, maybe not that well and probably not to everyone’s enjoyment. But, frankly, I wish life was a musical. Scott is a musician I still swoon when he plays his favorite Beatles songs on his guitar.

The one thing I could never do was draw. I practiced (usually during class) and practiced and just made pretty stick figures. So when I picked up a camera and discovered that you could create art without a pen or brush, I was hopelessly addicted. Photography has swept me away. The artistry of being able to draw out the extraordinary out of the everyday and ordinary, it inspires me. It’s such a journey and every level just brings more challenges and more growth. My goal is to create images that capture my client’s natural style and beauty while painting their world with bright and vivid colors. Some of my favorite and inspiration photographers whose work I follow are:

Weddings
Nely Fok Photography (San Diego)
Red Heart Photography (Oahu)

Family and Children
Audrey Woulard Photography (Chicago)
Windward Skies Photography (Oahu)

The "Officiant"

My name is Scott and I'm married to the most wonderful woman...and she doesn't even pay me to say that...any more. All joking aside, it has been an awesome journey and I am stoked every time I get to share that special day with couples making the same commitment to each other.

I was born and raised in Kaneohe on the windward side Of Oahu. I earned a Bachelor's Degree in history and people always ask me what I planned to do with a degree in American History. Um, I'm still not sure. I chose to follow my calling and work for a church. I am on staff as one of the pastors for Hope Chapel Kaneohe Bay, and I am licensed by the state of hawaii to perform weddings.

I personally believe the wedding ceremony is a reflection of the bride and groom and they should be able to create a ceremony that makes it personal to them. I have a standard outline that can be used or couples can add their own little touches, (ex. special readings, sand ceremonies, hawaiian blessings).

God Bless,

Scott Sunaoka
